report of unused authorized CC transactions for checked out guests

Sometimes we preauthorize a guest CC at check in, but it never gets used. They may opt to use a different card, or pay cash, etc. After all guests have checked out, we go through every reservation transaction individually: Transactions > Authorized Transactions. If it is still open then we void it. This needs to be done daily for every checked out reservation. Sometimes (for whatever reason) this task gets missed, or one record is overlooked.

I don't know if this open CC authorization eventually times out and drops off from their bank. So that it doesn't hold up an unneeded authorization on their CC, we want to be sure to release and void that preauthorization.

We are requesting that a report be created to identify within a date (range) all open authorized transactions for checked out reservations.

This would be a huge time saver!! Imagine having to go through every checked out reservation individually looking for these. This is what we do daily. Having this report would eliminate a very time consuming tedious task and would ensure nothing was overlooked. It would also help guest relations by eliminating a situation when the guest would call us asking why a charge is still pending with their bank.

How does everyone else (other hotels) manage without this?

How would you rate the importance of this idea? Would help but is not 100% necessary
